NRT bylaws require an annual meeting in the month of April. The annual meeting is necessary for a quorum of members to vote on 2021 officers, the budget, and any articles. In past years, we’ve also enjoyed an annual speaker and socializing over refreshments. In light of the public health concerns regarding COVID-19, NRT regrets that there will not be an in-person meeting April 2021. Instead, there will be a Zoom meeting. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to register.
Once again in 2019, the NRT along with Scout Troop 17 helped “Keep Mansfield Beautiful” by removing trash in the Cpl. Hardy Conservation area and a part of Maple Street. Pictured is Steve Spink, Michele White, Ron Porat, Dana St. James, and Colin Cauldwell. Thanks to Michele for coordinating.
NRT Voted to
Support Plastic Bag Ban
The NRT voted to support article 45 at the May 15, 2018 Annual Town Meeting.
NRT President Lou Andrews stated “We feel the article is a reasonable start to reducing the use of plastics in Mansfield”
The ban initially applied to any retail location with a floor area of 3,500 square feet or more, or multiple locations of the same name within town having a combined area of at least 3,500 square feet.
Only two types of checkout bags are allowed at retail outlets: recyclable paper bags or re-usable bags.
Plastic is Indestructible. Every item of plastic that has ever been created is still on the planet today.
We encourage you to see “ A Plastic Ocean.” If you can’t see the movie please read the document at this link or go to their web site PlasticOceans.org
NRT Donated Reusable Bags
To support of the plastic bag ban, the NRT donated 100 reusable grocery bags to Our Daily Bread (Mansfield’s food pantry), and the Council on Aging The bags were distributed by Barry Cioe, of the TeamUp Mansfield group. TeamUp Mansfield sponsored the plastic bag ban article that passed at town meeting.
